Emma Jackson - exhibition

Award-winning feltmaker Emma Jackson presents a new body of work celebrating wool as both material and muse. With over 25 years of practice, Emma’s work explores the tactile beauty, warmth, and sculptural possibilities of this ancient fibre, creating richly textured pieces that invite touch and challenge conventional perceptions of felt.

Originally known for her functional felted textiles for interiors and wear through her practice Silversoles, this exhibition marks both a culmination of her experience and a significant shift in her creative journey. Moving beyond functional design, Emma’s recent work focuses on sculptural wall pieces and felted fleece rugs that reveal the natural character, texture, and tonal beauty of wool in its rawest form.

Working directly with whole Gotland fleeces sourced from local shepherdess Pauline Jones and her pedigree flock, Emma follows the journey of wool from fleece to finished work. The result is a collection of tactile, sensory works that celebrate provenance, process, and the close relationship between maker and material. From pale silver-grey to deep charcoal and black, the natural tonal variations of Gotland wool become both palette and subject.
