Following the release of his new book On a train home with the Sun in my eyes, Chris Snow presents an exhibition of the illustrations, maps, prints and ideas behind the work, alongside new collaborations exploring similar themes.

The book is described as “a book of winter sunshine”, weaving together images, maps, rhythms and words drawn from a time when you are young, and rock pools feel like entire universes. Set in Margate, it reflects on its buildings and people, families, artists and writers who have called it home, and how their presence continues to ripple through the town. It is a book about light, the sea, the sky - and, unexpectedly, an irrational fear of octopus too.

Much of the exhibition explores winter light, place, and the rhythms seen from train windows, with film / animation by Chris and 15 collaborating artists offering a rich, multidisciplinary experience.

A cosy, multidisciplinary evening with Chris Snow

Later in the programme, join us for a Cosy Cinema night featuring the short film WHERE IS THIS?, following a journey from the Midlands to the Swiss Alps in search of a glacier from a 1960s travel poster. Armed only with a postcard and curiosity, the adventurers let chance and landscape guide the way. Music and visuals created to accompany the film make the evening immersive and engaging.

After the screening, Chris will give a short talk about his work, the exhibition, and the ideas behind the book, exploring how images, journeys and small details shape his practice. Copies of On a train home with the Sun in my eyes will be available to browse, buy, and have signed, alongside other books by Chris, including the previously sold-out graphic book created to accompany the short film WHERE IS THIS?.

This is a relaxed, intimate evening for anyone interested in film, illustration, storytelling, and the quiet magic of following an idea wherever it leads.
