Handmade Future is an award-winning 2026 feature documentary directed by Kirsten Dickerson and Brandon Dickerson that explores traditional craftsmanship and the ethics of the global craft economy
It follows artisans in six countries who preserve heritage, navigate the complex role of middlemen, and advance responsible trade - pushing back against fast, cheap production to quietly restore a frayed world through beauty and human connection. From rug weavers in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains and block printers in India’s Golden Triangle to Appalachian broom makers in Kentucky and recycled-glass blowers in Kenya, the film showcases craftspeople whose work carries generations of skill, culture, and creativity.
Our •cosy cinema• is changing!
Thanks to support from Film Hub Midlands, we can now make our screenings a little less mysterious. From now on, we’ll be able to feature the films we’re showing directly on our website - so you’ll actually know what you’re booking for! :)
The spirit of •cosy cinema• isn’t changing though. Expect our usual mix of arthouse, world cinema, independent films and documentaries, often with a Central and Eastern European connection. As always, these are films we genuinely enjoy, find interesting and want to share with you.
DIY cinema, carefully chosen films, cosy atmosphere - just a little less mystery :)
After the screening, we stay for a casual, friendly discussion - very relaxed, and open to everyone.
Screenings are free, but donations are warmly welcomed - they help us keep bringing events like this to the community. There’s always tea and coffee available, sometimes snacks too (and you’re very welcome to bring something to share).
Spaces are limited, so if you book but can no longer make it, please let us know as soon as possible - someone else may be waiting for a spot.
•COSY CINEMA• has a very DIY setup, so don’t expect luxuries - but we promise a warm and welcoming experience!
Please note: The system doesn’t handle free tickets reliably, so orders may not be processed correctly (especially if you use Apple Pay. Sometimes adding your details before completing the order can help)
Your spot is only confirmed once you receive a confirmation email.
