Join textile artist Emily Hawkins for an evening exploring flax - from seed to linen. Emily will talk about the traditional craft of processing flax into linen, its role as a regenerative crop, and why this ancient fibre has an important place in the future of sustainable textiles and fashion.
The talk will also introduce Emily's vision of growing flax in urban spaces, reimagining our towns and cities as places where fibre crops can once again become part of the landscape.
As part of this project, we planted flax together with Emily in the planters outside •nook• - a living legacy of FLORA that continues to grow beyond the exhibition.
Join us to discover the story of one of the world's oldest fibres, explore the potential of urban flax growing, and learn how a simple plant can inspire conversations about biodiversity, sustainability and local making.
